Plant a triumphant spring finale with these exotic bloomers. The tall, straight stems bear a dozen or more, bright white flowers that encompass a shining black pearl at their heart. This pearl holds their seeds and as it matures, it turns green.
The flowers a soft, sweet fragrance, but you do have to press your nose close to enjoy it.
This Ornithogalum blooms in late spring (for us the end of November) and produces fantastic, long lasting cut flowers with up to 15 flowers per stem. The blue green leaves are strap like and semi erect but not really a feature.
Ornithogalum bulbs are easily grown in a sunny, well drained location and can be left undisturbed for many years. They are best planted grouped closely together and favour a warm, dry summer for their dormancy. Poor soils aren't a problem, they appreciate good drainage and will gradually multiply into clumps. Suitable for pots.
Ornithogalum arabicum are commonly known as Arabian Star Flower or Arab`s Eyes because of the prominent black 'eye' in the centre of the bloom and its geographical origin.
