Tritonia 'Sugar and Spice'
All things nice.
Short delay - awaiting stock
This Tritonia blend is all things nice with a mix of pink, apricot and white to cream blooms. It makes an impressive choice for a well drained, sunny position.
Tritonia are wonderfully care free and free flowering. The blooms open amid short, lance shaped leaves. 6-10 flowers open on each stem and the blooms last well. Each bloom is 3-5cm in diameter.
Tritonia are commonly called Flame Freesias and they are members of the Iris family and hail from South Africa. They like the same growing as Freesias conditions, flower later and are similarly good as cut flowers.
Plant Tritonia 'Sugar and Spice' in a sunny spot with well drained soil. Once planted, bulbs can be left in the ground for years without the need to dig them each year. Add some fertiliser when they begin to emerge in spring, and again when they are flowering for best results. Water to establish, then only if rainfall is low during active growth. They should be relatively dry in dormancy.
Tritonia 'Sugar and Spice' is suitable for growing in pots, as long as they have good drainage and you maintain the water over winter, early spring. This is the time when they are growing their roots, so it is important to keep them moist but not wet. You could plant a winter flowering annual such as a Viola on top to remind you to water and so you can enjoy even more flowers.
