Silver Chimes

The elegant, frost white and silver-green star shaped flowers open on upright stems. Ornithogalum 'Silver Chimes' is a good bulb for naturalising, and it will gradually multiply to form clumps.

Up to 20 velvety blooms can open on each 30-40cm stem. Their unusual, soft colour scheme is easy to use in any garden, or cut flower arrangement.

Ornithogalum 'Silver Chimes' flowers draw a lot of attention when people visit our gardens; for us it begins flowering early September and can last until the end of October, even into November.

Ornithogalum 'Silver Chimes' even grows well in pots, ideally mixing with evergreen foliage plants such as . In the garden you could try planting them at the base of deciduous trees, on the edge of beds and borders or among rockeries. The foliage is long and strappy, with a silver streak at its centre. It is a bit lazy so tends to arch and then lay on the ground which looks nice and whimsical. As the weather warms it will soon yellow and disappear, any yellow foliage can be pulled as it has served its purpose.

Plant Ornithogalum 'Silver Chimes' in full sun to part shade in a well drained soil. Plant 10cm deep and 5-10cm apart. Water in to establish and then you only need worry if rainfall is low during growth, they become dry tolerant as they mature. The bulbs don't need to be lifted, they can remain in the soil to naturalise/perennialise.
